Air Zimbabwe, is set to introduce daily return flights between Harare and Mutare from September 8 to 14 to support the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Travel Expo.

Sanganai/Hlanganani World Travel Expo is running from September 10 to 12 in Mutare.

The National airline says the new service is part of its turnaround strategy aimed at expanding its route network, improving domestic connectivity, and strengthening Zimbabwe’s tourism industry.

The Eastern Highlands is among the country’s most scenic destinations and will be hosting the international tourism showcase for the first time.

In a statement released Thursday morning, Air Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer, Edmund Makona said the move was designed to make travel more convenient for exhibitors, delegates, and visitors attending the Expo while testing the market’s response to the new route.

“This operation is a pilot project. We are testing the market, understanding demand, and exploring the long-term viability of this route. If the demand is there, Air Zimbabwe will be ready to make it a permanent feature of our network,” said Makona.

The flights will also connect seamlessly with routes linking Harare and Victoria Falls, allowing passengers to experience multiple destinations in one trip. Travellers from Mutare will further benefit from onward connections to regional and international routes via Harare.

The airline confirmed it had worked with the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe, Airports Company of Zimbabwe, National Handling Services and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority to ensure that all necessary infrastructure and support services are in place for smooth operations.

Makona added that the initiative reinforced the national carrier’s role in driving tourism and national development.

“Air Zimbabwe is more than an airline. We are a bridge that connects people, cultures, and opportunities. These Harare–Mutare flights are proof of our dedication to growth, our belief in Zimbabwe’s tourism potential, and our determination to keep the nation flying high,” added Makona.

Passengers will also be able to book tickets online through a new partnership with PayNow, designed to make travel more accessible and convenient.
