Four people were injured when a truck they were travelling in was struck by a train at the Mabvuku level crossing in Harare.
The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) reported that the accident occurred on Saturday night after the truck driver ignored warnings of the approaching train. The injured passengers were rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital for treatment.
The incident comes as the NRZ and other stakeholders continue to run weekly awareness campaigns at the level crossing, which is located near a traffic interchange currently under construction.
The campaigns aim to reduce accidents and educate motorists about the dangers of ignoring signals at railway crossings.
The NRZ has also appealed to drivers to exercise extreme caution when approaching level crossings.
Railway-related accidents have been on the rise in Zimbabwe in the first half of 2025. Ten people were hit by trains, resulting in four deaths and six serious injuries.
Additionally, 13 level crossing accidents were reported during the same period, causing a further 13 injuries.
Common causes of these accidents include pedestrians walking or exercising on tracks, motorists ignoring signals, and distractions such as mobile phones or headphones.
