The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee has fined Ngezi Platinum Stars US$5,000 for disrupting the flow of their Castle Lager PSL match against Dynamos at Rufaro Stadium on 4 October 2025, citing improper behaviour by both players and the technical team.
In a statement on Friday, PSL Communications and Media Liaison Officer, Kudzai Bare said Ngezi Platinum Stars’ Head Coach, Takesure Chiragwi, pleaded guilty to charges of violent and disorderly conduct, as well as behaviour likely to bring the League into disrepute.
Chiragwi was fined US$4,000, with US$1,000 of the fine suspended on the condition that he attends anger management lessons with a PSL-approved organisation.
“In reaching its decision, the Disciplinary Committee took cognisance of the coach’s public apology to the player, the League and all stakeholders.
“The Committee also considered his accountability, remorse, and the punitive internal disciplinary measures already instituted by his Club without delay.
“Notice was further taken of the coach’s suspension from official duties and his voluntary decision to step down from his position as Zimbabwe Senior Men’s National Team Assistant Coach during the recent FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“Ngezi Platinum Stars FC player Kudzai Chigwida was also found guilty of ungentlemanly conduct and improper utterances to a match official and fined US$100.”
The match ended in a 1–1 draw but was overshadowed by controversial refereeing decisions, which have led to disciplinary action against the officials.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has suspended referees Lawrence Zimondi and Rumeck Edgar following the game.
According to ZIFA, the officials made incorrect decisions that significantly affected the outcome of the match.
The suspension will run from matchday 31 until the end of the 2025 Premier Soccer League season, citing violations of Article 22 of the Referees’ Code of Conduct.
