The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has dragged five suspects to the Mbare Magistrates’ Court following the interception of a 10-tonne truck laden with 306kg of dagga and 49 boxes of Broncleer cough syrup.
Prosecutors told the court the bust occurred in the early hours of 23 August 2025 when CID Drugs Harare detectives, acting on a tip-off, stopped the truck in Kuwadzana Extension.
“Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered 20 sacks of dagga and 49 boxes of Broncleer, with each box containing 50 x 100ml bottles,” prosecutors said.
Four suspects Paradzai Kamungeremu (43), Givemore Tsavayo (38), Nkosikhona Moyo (35), and Tafadzwa Mapika (20) were arrested on the spot.
They later implicated Faith Matekede (37), who was arrested along Robson Manyika Road after allegedly receiving part of the consignment.
The State is opposing bail, arguing the offence is “serious, prejudicial to society, and carries a high risk of absconding.”
The case has been remanded as investigations continue.
