HARARE- Four armed robbers were shot dead during a gunfight with CID Homicide detectives in Norton on Friday, 3 October 2025.

Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on Sunday, 5 October, that the incident involved a fierce exchange of gunfire between detectives and the suspects.

Four of the robbers were killed, while two detectives were seriously injured and are now receiving treatment in hospital. Two of the dead suspects were foreign nationals.

“The Police received information and tracked a motorised syndicate which had come from South Africa to pounce on targets in Bulawayo, Harare and Kwekwe.

“As the detectives were following, the suspects fired at them resulting in a serious exchange of fire near Norton Tollgate, along Harare-Bulawayo Road.

“Subsequently, the detectives recovered the suspects’ getaway car, a Toyota Axio, a Girsan 9mm Parabellum pistol with a magazine of two rounds, a 9 mm Parabellum pistol with a magazine of one round, one pair Relay grey army green shoes and one black navy blue jacket inscribed “Grey Wolf”.

“One of the suspects was captured on CCTV wearing the recovered shoes and jacket during an armed robbery incident which occurred on 30th September 2025 at a local hospital in Harare where USD 1 833.00 cash and airtime recharge cards worth USD 140.00 were stolen,” Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said.

Commissioner Nyathi stated that the suspects were linked to five armed robbery cases that occurred in Harare and Bulawayo between June 25 and October 3, 2025.

These include a robbery in Njube, Bulawayo, on 25 June, where US$8,000 and an iPhone were stolen.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that there is no going back in the fight against armed robbery cases in the country.

“All syndicates, whether locally or foreign-based, will be decisively dealt, in line with the country’s laws.

“The public is urged to report criminal activities to the Police on National Complaints Desk number (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp on 0712 800197 or report at any nearest Police Station,”Nyathi added.
