Zvimba East legislator, Kudakwashe Manhanzva has approached government to find a lasting solution over the proposed eviction of over 7000 families in Mount Hampden.
The families were served with eviction orders by a brick mounding company Willdale Bricks recently after the company was given a green light by the high court.
The company used to extract clay for bricks from the area, but the land has gone idle and is run over by ‘illegal’ brickmakers.
Addressing the thousands in Mt Hampden on Sunday Manhanzva says, He has since approached the government over the issue and no one will be left homeless and relevant government agencies are working round the clock in regards with the matter.
“As your MP i have approached relavent government ministry and they’re currently seized with the matter, and caring ZANU PF-led government is fully committed to ensuring every affected family is resettled in safe and dignified conditions”, he said.
“As you’re aware the provincial authorities visited this place, so don’t punic as the whole leadership is working to make sure you get decent accommodation as we march towards vision 2030 of an upper middle class economy in the mantra of leaving no one and no place behind as enanciated by President Emerson Mnangagwa”, added Mananzva.
Brickmaker hopes selling off its land in the in-demand Mt Hampden area will raise the money it needs to turn around its flagging fortunes.
The land is valued at US$3 million, but the company believes it can fetch more money if it develops the land first, and then sells stands. The company has missed out on demand from construction because of its aged plants.
Willdale plans to develop the 123.6 hectares into housing stands and industrial park which it valued at US$1.1 million.
