Government has announced it will pay a Special Presidential Bonus of US$150 to all civil servants this year.
The announcement was made by Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister, Edgar Moyo, told journalists in Harare on Thursday.
He said the move shows the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of public sector employees and pensioners, and is part of ongoing efforts to build a motivated and productive public service.
“To provide festive season relief and recognise dedicated service, Government will pay a once off Special Presidential Bonus of US$150 for all civil servants which will be disbursed in two equal instalments of US$75 in November and December 2025. This will be in addition to the regular annual bonus and salaries.”
Moyo said the Job Evaluation Remuneration Framework is scheduled for implementation in the first quarter of 2026.
He added that the civil servants’ vehicle rebate will be fully restored to the 2022 benefit levels, rewarding long service and commitment as outlined in Statutory Instrument 124 of 2022, with effect from 1 December 2025.
Moyo also revealed plans to revitalize medical insurance by recapitalising the Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS), ensuring public servants have sustainable access to quality healthcare.
“As part of the non-monetary incentives, Government is also promoting home ownership, through the identified 26,000 housing stands: 20,000 in Harare and 6,000 in Bulawayo, with further allocations planned across the country.”
The announcement comes amid growing public anger over alleged corruption by well-connected tenderpreneurs, who are reportedly siphoning millions from state coffers and spending it extravagantly, including giving cars and cash to local celebrities, while hospitals remain understocked and lack essential medication.
It also comes just hours ahead of a demonstration scheduled for Friday, 17 October, called by fugitive war veteran Blessed Geza, who has urged citizens to protest against what he alleges is widespread corruption among the country’s ruling elite.
