Four people arrested in Kwekwe after police intercepted a truck carrying counterfeit Huletts sugar worth US$14,658, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed.

The suspects Devine Manzisano(19), Ashten Rwodzi (40), Rebecca Hando (31), and Kudzaishe Karimatsanga  (18) appeared before Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court facing charges under the Trade Marks Act.

The matter has been remanded to 19 December 2025 for setdown, as investigations continue.

According to the NPA, detectives received information on 3 December 2025 that the group was delivering counterfeit sugar to Machingura Wholesale in the Kwekwe Industrial Area.

Acting on the tip-off, police intercepted a white and maroon DAF CF truck transporting 698 bags of 20kg sugar.

Tongaat Huletts’ Loss Control Officer confirmed the consignment was counterfeit. Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused had no authorisation from Huletts Private Limited to distribute the sugar.

The suspects, from Waterfalls and Chitungwiza, were taken into custody, and the counterfeit goods were seized.

Police are continuing investigations to uncover the full network behind the operation.
