Police have launched a manhunt for a suspected armed robber who allegedly shot dead two detectives in Zaka, Masvingo Province, on Sunday morning.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it is looking for Daniel Munyanyi (50), of Ndume Village under Chief Ndanga in Zaka.

Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi has appealed to members of the public for any information that could lead to Munyanyi’s arrest.

According to Nyathi, the suspect allegedly opened fire on the officers at around 5 am on 1 March 2026 while they were in Ndume Village tracking him down over a string of armed robbery cases in Harare and surrounding areas.

The detectives who were killed have been identified as Detective Constables Bernard Chimbeke (37) and McKenzie Chitsowe (43).

Meanwhile, Commissioner-General of Police Stephen Mutamba has expressed his deepest condolences to the Chimbeke and Chitsowe families.
