HARARE – A Harare woman, Annalisa Muguwe, has been remanded in custody at Chikurubi Female Prison following her appearance before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on cyber-related charges.
She was not granted bail and did not apply for it during her latest court appearance. The matter was remanded to Monday for continuation.
Muguwe is accused of engaging in a sustained cyberstalking campaign targeting a local businessman, in a case that authorities say has been ongoing for years.
She faces charges under the Cyber and Data Protection Act, as well as allegations of breaching a protection order issued on February 14, 2025.
Investigations allege that after the complainant ended their relationship nearly three years ago, Muguwe continued to pursue him through digital platforms and associates.
“She allegedly kept tracking him through social media and people close to him,” said a source familiar with the case. “It became persistent.”
Despite a court order barring any contact, she allegedly continued the conduct, which reportedly escalated after the complainant left the country.
Police say the alleged actions included spreading damaging information, causing emotional distress and reputational harm.
“This goes beyond harassment — it is alleged cyberbullying and defiance of a court order,” a source said.
The complainant is said to have sought legal protection after attempts to disengage failed.
Muguwe remains in custody as investigations and court proceedings continue.
Authorities have warned that cyberstalking and online harassment are criminal offences, urging the public to respect legal and digital boundaries.
