HARARE – Police have intercepted an attempted smuggling of 15.7 kilograms of gold, valued at US$1,568,860, out of Zimbabwe.Victoria Falls flights
According to a statement posted on their official X page, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) received a tip on Tuesday that gold was about to be smuggled in a Toyota Prado Land Cruiser.
Detectives from the CID Minerals and the Flora and Fauna Unit tracked the vehicle, leading to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of the gold.
The ZRP has not revealed the identities of the suspects, sparking concerns over transparency and fueling speculation that high-profile individuals may be involved.
“The ZRP confirms that a tip was received on 19/08/25 that gold was about to be smuggled out of the country whilst hidden in a Toyota Prado Land Cruiser vehicle.
“Detectives from CID Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit tracked the vehicle leading to the arrest of three suspects and the subsequent recovery of 15,7 kilogrammes of gold valued at USD 1 568 860.00.
“The gold has since been taken to Fidelity Gold Refinery, Msasa. Investigations are in progress”, ZRP statement reads.
