The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced the diversion of traffic to detour routes to pave way for the construction of the long-awaited Mabvuku Interchange.
In a public notice, the ministry said the detour will officially open to traffic on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, and will remain in place throughout the duration of the project.
“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development wishes to inform the motoring public and all road users that traffic will be diverted to detour routes for the purposes of the construction of Mabvuku Interchange construction project,” read the statement.
The statement further stressed that the move is necessary to ensure smooth rehabilitation works and the safety of both motorists and construction crews.
Clear signage will be installed to guide drivers through alternative routes.
“The detour has been necessitated by the commencement of the construction of the Mabvuku Interchange, ensuring the safety of both motorists and construction personnel while allowing progress on the upgrades,” the ministry added.
The project is part of government’s broader infrastructure development programme aimed at easing congestion in Harare’s eastern suburbs and modernising the capital’s transport network.
While apologising for the inconvenience, the ministry urged drivers to exercise patience.
“The Ministry regrets any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this period.”
