A Kadoma woman has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a two-year-old boy and deceiving her lover, a gold panner, by falsely claiming the child was theirs.
The suspect, Sibongile Dzvairo, reportedly took the boy from the care of his mother’s housemaid in early August and vanished. The child’s mother, Bridget Banda, who has three children, said she had been desperately searching for her son since the abduction.
Investigations revealed that Dzvairo took the child to Kwekwe, where her lover resides. She admitted that she had lied to him, claiming the boy was his biological son.
For more than two years, the man had been providing financial support for the child without ever seeing him.
Speaking to H-Metro, Bridget said the ordeal left her with sleepless nights, tormented by fear for her missing child. She said:
“After some days, my maid recognised Sibongile, which led us to contact the police.”
They eventually tracked Sibongile to Kwekwe, where Bridget was at last reunited with her son.
Sibongile reportedly claimed that her lover had threatened to kill her if she failed to produce the child he believed was his.
In what she described as an act of desperation, she decided to abduct a boy under the age of three.
Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, could not be reached for comment.
However, sources told H-Metro that Sibongile was detained at Rimuka Police Station in Kadoma and is expected to appear in court soon.
