A train derailed at the busy Kambuzuma level crossing in Harare on Saturday night, blocking traffic for more than two hours and forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.
The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) confirmed that the incident occurred at around 7:30 PM.
NRZ said it mobilised equipment and personnel to re-rail the train and clear the line, a task that was completed by approximately 9:45 PM. The NRZ said:
“The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) informs the public of a blockage at the busy Kambuzuma level crossing in Harare after a derailment at 1930 hours this evening.
“As such, presently, vehicles can not pass through the level crossing and motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
“The NRZ is currently mobilising equipment and manpower to re-rail the train and clear the line in the shortest possible time.
“We sincerely apologise to the public for the inconvenience caused by this derailment.”
In an update issued on Sunday morning, the NRZ said its recovery team successfully cleared the level crossing at 9:45 PM on Saturday, and traffic is now flowing smoothly.
