A 26-year-old kombi driver has been jailed and stripped of his driver’s licence following a fatal road traffic accident involving a minor in Harare.
Hatumwi Tinashe was convicted of culpable homicide by the Mbare Magistrates’ Court after he struck a child pedestrian in Crowborough Phase 3 in November 2025.
The victim later died at Sally Mugabe Hospital.
The court ruled that the driver was negligent for failing to keep a proper lookout and to take reasonable action to avoid the collision.
He was sentenced to two years in prison, banned from driving for two years, and his licence was cancelled.
Authorities say the ruling sends a strong message that negligent driving will not be tolerated.
