The South African Constitutional Court has dismissed a request by the family of former Zambian president Edgar Lungu, who had asked it to review a dispute between the family and the Zambian government regarding where Lungu’s body should be buried.
In its ruling, the court stated that Lungu’s family had not provided sufficient grounds, and therefore their application was rejected.
This means that the earlier ruling by the Pretoria High Court, which ordered that Lungu’s body must be buried in Zambia, still stands.
The case will now return to the Pretoria High Court, where proceedings had been suspended last month.
Lungu’s family has been pushing for the case to be expedited so that the late Edgar Lungu’s body can finally be laid to rest.
