A 30-year-old Kwekwe man, Shakemore Manyepa, has appeared in the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court after being arrested for allegedly pouring a harmful substance on his wife.

He has been remanded in custody.

It is alleged that on 26 November 2025, at around 7:30 PM, Manyepa came home drunk. He reportedly began burning groceries he had bought, and when his wife questioned him, an argument broke out. The situation escalated, leading to the alleged assault.

In a separate case, a Gweru woman has been handed a four-month prison sentence, wholly suspended for five years, after she was recorded assaulting her son in a video taken by her husband.

The court decided on a suspended sentence after considering several mitigating factors, including the emotional strain she was under following the recent death of her mother.

The magistrate also took into account that she is a first-time offender, a mother of three young children, and a female offender, and concluded that a custodial sentence was not appropriate in this instance.
