Police in Manicaland have arrested four men accused of extorting US$500 from a woman by promising to influence the downgrading of her husband’s murder charge to culpable homicide.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests, identifying the suspects as Nigel Godwin Mukuruzado (34), Reginald Ndarera (20), Shaloom Nyamazana (26) and Tinashe Chiwaye (28).
“On August 27, 2025, police in Mutare arrested the four in connection with a case of extortion in which they allegedly demanded US$500 from a complainant whose husband was facing murder charges,” said Nyathi.
He said one of the suspects met the complainant’s husband while both were remanded in custody at Mutare Prison and claimed he could facilitate a charge reduction.
The quartet was arrested while allegedly receiving the cash.
