Murewa Rural District Council Chairman, Alderman Amos Gutu, and four other passengers were hospitalized on Sunday after a council vehicle was struck by a train in Macheke.

The incident occurred near Gombo Supermarket, where the four passengers are believed to have boarded the vehicle.

Eyewitnesses report that Alderman Gutu, who was driving at the time, attempted to beat an oncoming train but failed, resulting in a collision.

The train, which was en route to Mutare, struck the vehicle and dragged it for an estimated 40 to 50 meters before coming to a stop.

All five individuals, including Alderman Gutu, were transported to Marondera Hospital for treatment.

Their current conditions have not yet been disclosed.

Authorities are investigating the incident.
