A Harare-based medical expert, Dr. Kondo Muchineripi Micky appeared in Court on charges of fraud and obstruction of justice.

According to State prosecutors, Dr. Kondo allegedly authored a medical letter in support of a High Court child custody matter involving a client he had never previously known or examined.

The incident occurred after an unidentified woman visited his practice at Eastgate Mediclinic, where according to state evidence paid US$500 for a consultation, a transaction that was receipted.

It is alleged that following the consultation, the woman left with a letter purportedly written by Dr. Kondo, tailored to strengthen her position in an ongoing custody dispute before the High Court. The letter is said to have contained claims about a businessman central to the case, raising concerns about its authenticity and the circumstances under which it was produced.

Dr. Kondo pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In his warned and cautioned statement, he distanced himself and his medical practice from the disputed document, describing it as fraudulent and denying any involvement in its authorship.

He further rejected allegations that he knowingly issued a medical opinion without proper examination or knowledge of the individuals concerned. He admitted to not knowing the businessman and that he has never treated him either.

Prosecutors argue that the letter was deliberately crafted to mislead the court, thereby undermining the administration of justice. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the document.

The magistrate remanded Dr. Kondo in custody pending further investigations.

The case has drawn attention to ethical standards within the medical profession and the potential misuse of professional authority in legal disputes.

The matter is expected to return to court soon for continuation of proceedings.
