Police have confirmed the arrest of two Chinese nationals in connection with the unlawful possession of gold and stolen electricity cables in separate incidents this week.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said that on Monday, 8 September 2025, detectives from the Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit (MFFU) in Harare arrested 39-year-old Fan Luping at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
He was allegedly found in possession of 34.6 grammes of gold without a permit as he attempted to check out at the airport. Luping now faces charges under the Gold Trade Act.
In a separate operation on Sunday, 7 September 2025, police in Beatrice arrested Ji Zhonghou (65), Tizora Arufayi (44), Christopher Mudenge (46) and Lovemore Mafukeni (31) at Charlestone Farm.
The group was allegedly found with 1,040 kilogrammes of aluminium electricity cables, suspected to have been unlawfully removed.
